EliteOceanSports was founded in 2011 by Mark Smith and Mark McKenzie with the goal of advancing the growing sport of surfski paddling in the Eastern United States. EliteOceanSports is based in Coastal South Carolina and is proud to provide Think Surfskis, as well as Jantex Paddles, and Mocke Paddling Gear to the Eastern United States.

Mark Smith…

Mark Smith

…co-owner of EliteOceanSports, pharmacist, cotton farmer, pilot, and father of four beautiful children ages 6-15, has been paddling and racing surfskis for two years around the southeast. His love for paddling began while competing in adventure biathlons/triathlons that included paddling along with running and cycling. After knee surgery in 2009, he began to concentrate on racing surfskis. EliteOceanSports was formed with the idea of promoting surfski racing and fitness paddling in the local area where most people paddled sea kayaks. When Mark began racing several years ago, there were very few surfskis paddled in his area. Now the field of surfski paddlers is growing at each event. Paddle strong my friends!

Mark McKenzie…

Mark McKenzie

…began his sporting life in the mid-80’s on the seat of a bicycle. For the next 20 years Mark rode at a competitive level, including stints at the international elite amateur level in Ghent, Belgium and Lugano, Switzerland, as well as a season as a proud member of the University of Kentucky cycling team. A native of Central Kentucky, Mark moved to coastal South Carolina in 2006. A desire to be on the ocean led to his discovery of surfski paddling and the beginning of his second sporting life. In a short time, Mark has become a dedicated ocean surfski paddler, and though he enjoys racing, first and foremost is passionate about just being on the water. When not enjoying family life with his beautiful wife and daughter, Mark can most often be found paddling the Atlantic Ocean off the coast of Sullivan’s Island, SC.
